Consular, passport and notarial services

The Consulate-General remains open Monday to Friday for normal business hours (8.30am to 4.30pm). Consular and passport services continue to be provided by appointment. As a precaution for the safety of our staff and visitors, we are providing notarial services only where there is an urgent need. Direct Aid Program (DAP) Community Grants 2026–27 Now Open

The Australian Consulate-General in Makassar invites applications for the Direct Aid Program (DAP) Community Grants 2026–27 from eligible organisations with innovative, community-led project ideas across the Consulate's yurisdiction area, covering 12 provinces in Eastern Indonesia and Kalimantan: South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, North Sulawesi, Gorontalo, Central Sulawesi, Maluku, North Maluku, West Papua, Southwest Papua, South Kalimantan, and East Kalimantan.

DAP Community Grants provide flexible small-scale funding to support practical projects that deliver meaningful and sustainable outcomes for local communities.

In the 2026–27 Round, we are seeking to fund projects of up to IDR 150,000,000 in the following priority sectors:

• Sustainable Farming Infrastructure
• Waste Management and Energy Efficiency
• Empowerment and Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities

Applications for projects outside the above priority sectors are also welcome.

Deadline

Applications must be submitted by 11:59 PM Central Indonesia Time (WITA) on Wednesday, 28 October 2026.

Late applications will not be accepted, and no extensions will be granted.

Strengthening Australia’s relations with eastern Indonesia

The people of eastern Indonesia are among Australia’s closest neighbours. Recognising the deep bonds of history and friendship between our peoples, the vast economic potential of eastern Indonesia, and the need to cooperate closely on shared challenges, the Australian Consulate-General in Makassar was opened in 2016.

The Consulate-General’s role is to promote business, education, cultural understanding and people-to-people links between Australia and twelve provinces in eastern Indonesia: East Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, Gorontalo, North Sulawesi, Maluku, North Maluku, Southwest Papua and West Papua provinces.  We also provide consular and passport services to Australian citizens in these locations.[1]

More than 33 million people live in these provinces, each of which has its own rich and distinct culture and language. While there is incredible diversity across these provinces, including in natural and human resources, economic profiles and development issues,  there are also many common challenges, ranging from climate change to health security, in which we all have a shared interest.

The Consulate-General’s work in these provinces reflects the breadth and depth of the Australia-Indonesia relationship. We work with schools, universities, businesses, Australian alumni, Australian development programs and regional governments to build and strengthen connections between eastern Indonesia and Australia.

Makassar has long anchored the relationship between the Australian continent and eastern Indonesia. For hundreds of years, sailors from Makassar and eastern Indonesia travelled to northern Australia to harvest sea cucumbers (trepang).  They developed strong relationships with the Indigenous people of northern Australia, which lives on through influences on language, culture, art and food.
