The Australian Consulate-General in Makassar provides consular and passport services to Australians in eleven provinces in eastern Indonesia: East Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, Gorontalo, North Sulawesi, Maluku, North Maluku and West Papua province. Other provinces in Indonesian are covered by our offices in Jakarta, Bali or Surabaya.
2024 Local, State and Territory Elections
The NSW local elections, ACT and Queensland elections will be held soon in Australia. The state and territory electoral commissions are not offering in-person voting services overseas this year and the Australian Embassy and Consulates-General will not accept postal votes.
If you are overseas on these election days, you can complete and seal a postal vote and post it directly to the relevant electoral commission. See below for further information.
NSW Local Government elections
NSW Local Government elections will take place on Saturday, 14 September 2024. If you’ll be in NSW, you can vote before election day from 7 September – 14 September. If you’ll be overseas, you can complete a postal vote (see Postal voting - NSW Electoral Commission for details). If you don’t get the chance to vote, visit I didn't vote - NSW Electoral Commission for advice.
ACT election
The 2024 ACT Legislative Assembly election day is 19 October 2024. If you’re overseas on election day, you can vote early, vote by postal vote or can let Elections ACT know that you can’t vote. To vote early you must be in the ACT between 8 October and 19 October 2024.
To send a postal vote, submit an Elections ACT Postal Vote Application and the ACT Electoral Commission will send you your voting papers from 30 September 2024 onwards. Postal vote applications must be submitted no later than 5pm AEST on Friday, 11 October 2024, in order to receive your ballot papers in time. Send your completed votes directly to Elections ACT. Postal votes must reach Elections ACT by 5pm on 25 October 2024 to be counted.

The Queensland State General Election will take place on 26 October 2024. Notarial Services
Notarial services are only available where the documents are Australian in origin, or intended for use in Australia. Please ensure you provide correct written instructions to our staff.
We provide notarial services at the Consulate-General in Makassar by appointment Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 12:30pm (excluding Consulate Holidays). Fees apply.
Notarial services include
- Certifying copies of original Australian documents or documents intended for use in Australia
- issuing an Authentication or Apostille certificate (verifying a signature, stamp, or seal on an Australian public document)
- witnessing of signatures on certain Australian documents
- the taking of Australian Statutory declarations being made for use in Australia.
- the administering of affidavits, oaths, and affirmations for use in Australian court or legal proceedings
- issuing a Certificate of no Impediment to marry in one of the Indonesian provinces covered by the Australian Consulate-General Makassar (refer to Marriage in Indonesia for further information)
